IND vs NZ: New Zealand win their first ODI series in India, Mitchell and Phillips overshadow Virat Kohli
India vs New Zealand, 3rd ODI : New Zealand secured a major victory in the third match of the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand. New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs in the third match to win the ODI series. With this victory, New Zealand won its first ODI series in India.
The Indian team’s last defeat in a bilateral ODI series at home came in March 2019. At that time, India was trailing 0-2 in the series against Australia, but made a remarkable comeback to win the series 3-2. This victory was historic for New Zealand. The Kiwis have played numerous bilateral ODIs on their tours to India since 1989, but this is their first ODI series win on Indian soil.
New Zealand turn the tables after a poor start
In the third match played in Indore, India won the toss and decided to bowl first. New Zealand got off to a poor start after being invited to bat first. They lost two wickets with just five runs on the board. Henry Nicholls was dismissed without scoring a run. Devon Conway then departed after scoring five runs. Will Young and Daryl Mitchell then added 50 runs. Young was dismissed after scoring 30 runs.
Daryl Mitchell remained at one end. He found a new partner in Glenn Phillips. The two shared a 219-run partnership for the fourth wicket in 186 balls. Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell completed his century, followed by Glenn Phillips. Daryl Mitchell scored 137, and Glenn Phillips scored 106. New Zealand scored 337 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs.
Poor start for India
Chasing a massive target, India had a poor start. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 11 runs. Shubman Gill then departed for 23. However, Virat Kohli held firm at one end. Following Gill, Iyer departed for 3 runs. KL Rahul departed for just 1 run. India lost 4 wickets at the score of 71.

From here, Virat Kohli was joined by Nitish Reddy. Kohli and Reddy shared an 88-run partnership. Nitish Reddy was dismissed for 53. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli also reached his half-century. Following Reddy, Jadeja was dismissed for 12. Harshit Rana then joined Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli scores his 54th ODI century
The two shared a 99-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli scored his 54th ODI century, while Harshit Rana scored his first half-century. With Harshit Rana’s dismissal, India were all out for 296. For New Zealand, Foakes took three wickets, Clarke three, and Lennox two.
