Know why the Election Commission might send you a notice even if your name is on draft voter list of Uttar Pradesh


Lucknow. Even if your name has appeared in the draft voter list after SIR in UP, do not feel relieved. UP Election Commission is now going to send notices to 3.26 crore voters. After the Election Commission’s SIR, there are 2.32 crore voters in UP whose name, age etc. are incorrect. The Election Commission is going to send notices to all of them. Apart from this, 1.04 crore voters of UP could not be matched in the voter list of 2003. All these will also be noticed. In such a situation, if you fall in any of the above two categories, then you can also be sent a notice and called for hearing.

UP Election Commission has identified such voters in all 403 assembly constituencies of the state. After sending notice to everyone, the first hearing will be held on January 21. The voters who are being summoned by sending notices will be heard at 3793 places. Such voters will be heard by 403 Electoral Registration Officers and 8751 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. The process of hearing by sending notice will continue till 6th February. After which the final voter list of UP will come on March 6. If you also get a notice from the Election Commission, you will have to provide proof that your parents, grandparents etc. have been citizens of India.

Meanwhile, the number of women in the draft voter list released after SIR in UP has decreased. Before SIR, there were 877 women voters for every 1000 men in UP. According to the list released after SIR, the number of women voters for every 1000 male voters has now come down to 824. According to UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, before SIR, there were 71.18 lakh women aged 25 years and above whose father’s name was in the voter list. Out of these, names of 42.13 lakh women were deleted. It is being told that the names of the women were at both their maternal and in-laws’ places. Before SIR, there were 4.16 crore voters in the cities of UP. Now 2.99 crores are left. Earlier the names of 11.28 crore voters were registered in rural areas of UP. After SIR, now their number has come down to only 9.56 crores.
