India Open 2026: Lin Chun Yi wins first Super 750 title, Ann Se Young saves women’s singles title

New Delhi, 18 January. Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun Yi, ranked 12th in the BWF world rankings, won his first Super 750 men’s singles title at the USD 9.50 lakh India Open badminton tournament here on Sunday, while current world number one and defending champion South Korean An Se Young managed to defend her title in the women’s singles.

Lin Chun defeated Christie in just 38 minutes

26-year-old Lin Chun, who ended the Indian challenge from the tournament two days ago by defeating Lakshya Sen in a tight three-game quarterfinal, showed amazing speed in the title match played on Sunday on court number one of the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and defeated third seeded Indonesian Jonathan Christie 21-10, 21-18 in just 38 minutes.

Interestingly, Lin Chun had to bow out in the opening round of Malaysia Open Super 1000 last week. But he made a spectacular comeback in New Delhi. In this sequence, in the semi-finals on Saturday, he broke the challenge of 2025 World Championship bronze medalist Victor Lai of Canada and then disappointed third seed Christie in the finals.

World number two Wang Xi lost to An Se Young in 43 minutes

On the other hand, in the women’s singles final, top seed Ann Se Young maintained her dominance and won her second title of the season by defeating world number two Chinese shuttler Wang Zi Yi 21-13, 21-11 in 43 minutes. He also won the Malaysia Open Super 1000 title last week.

Top Chinese pair won women’s doubles title

Earlier, the first title of the day was decided in women’s doubles, when the top seeded Chinese pair of Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning won 21-11, 21-18 over Japan’s fifth seeds Yuki Fukushima and Saika Matsumoto after a struggle of 58 minutes.

Thai team wins mixed doubles crown

The mixed doubles crown went to third seeds Dechapol Puwaranukroh and Supisara Pavasampran of Thailand, who defeated Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje 19-21, 25-23, 21-18 in a thrilling three-game clash that lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

Chinese pair also champion in men’s doubles

China got its second title success in men’s doubles at the India Open, when fourth seeds Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang defeated the Japanese pair of Hiroki Midorikawa and Kiyohei Yamashita 17-21, 25-23, 21-16 in the final of the tournament after a 65-minute struggle.

Shuttlers from all over the world will now gather in Jakarta, where they will battle for supremacy in the Indonesia Masters Super 500 competition from January 20.
