IND vs NZ: Kohli scored a century, yet India did not lose, New Zealand won the series 2-1

Indore, 18 January 2026: In the third and decisive ODI between India and New Zealand played at Holkar Stadium, the Indian team had to face defeat by 41 runs. With this, New Zealand won the series 2-1. This was the first time that New Zealand defeated India in an ODI series at home. Despite Virat Kohli’s brilliant century, India remained away from victory.

India had a target of 338 runs and the start was very bad. Rohit Sharma returned to the pavilion early after scoring 11 runs and Shubhman Gill 23 runs. But then Virat Kohli took over the innings and played a brilliant inning of 124 runs. Virat hit 10 fours and 3 sixes in 108 balls and scored his 54th ODI century.

The situation started changing when Harshit Rana made an important partnership of 99 runs with Virat for the seventh wicket. Harshit completed his half-century in just 41 balls, but after his dismissal the course of the match changed. India’s pressure increased as soon as Harshit Rana was out after scoring 52 runs in the 44th over. After this, Mohammad Siraj also got out without opening the account and Virat Kohli also got out while trying to play a big shot.

New Zealand, batting first, scored 337 runs for 8 wickets on the basis of brilliant innings by Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips. Mitchell scored 137 and Phillips scored 106 runs. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana took 3 wickets each.

India was all out for 296 runs and lost the series.
