New Zealand captain Bracewell sprinkled salt on the wound and said – We are small but…
New Delhi. India lost 1-2 in the ODI series against New Zealand (India vs New Zealand). New Zealand won the third and last ODI by 41 runs in Indore on Sunday and created history. On the basis of a century by Daryl Mitchell (137), New Zealand scored 337/8 and bowled out India for 296 runs. Virat Kohli’s (124) century was ruined. New Zealand has won the ODI series on Indian soil for the first time. New Zealand started touring India for bilateral ODI matches in 1989 but the wait to win the series ended after 37 years. After the historic victory, New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell sprinkled salt on the burns of the Indian team.
We are a small country but part of the world…’
Bracewell said after the third ODI, “It’s always special to come to India and play in front of great fans and against a great team. For the first time, the New Zealand team has won an ODI series here, which is special. You always expect to come here and play good cricket. As a group, we did what we do well. We are a small country on the map but we try to perform together to take on some of the big countries in the world.” He read a eulogy for Daryl Mitchell, who was named Player of the Series. He scored 352 runs in three matches. He was also the player of the match in the second and third ODI.
What did Bracewell say about Mitchell?
The Kiwi captain said, “Mitchell has been performing brilliantly in the ODI format for the last few years. He has led the batting attack very beautifully. He is a very humble person. It is very special to see him receiving the award while fulfilling his responsibility. He deserves it.” Mitchell scored 84 runs in the first match of the series and 131 not out in the second ODI. New Zealand gave a chance to three young players to debut in India. Bracewell said, “Whenever you introduce youngsters to international cricket, it is great. We have three players making their debut here and it is great to experience things. The debutants did a great job for us.”
