Suspense continues on BMC Mayor: Eknath Shinde told the newly elected councilors – only Mahayuti will be the Mayor of Mumbai

Mumbai, 19 January. After Mahayuti’s victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, all eyes are now on the post of the next Mayor of Mumbai. Amidst the ongoing speculation regarding this important post, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met the newly elected councilors of his party, after which the stir in the political circles regarding the post of Mayor has intensified. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday hosted all the 29 newly elected councilors of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. After this, he himself met these councilors on Sunday, which has further increased the political temperature.

Talking to journalists after this meeting, Eknath Shinde said that he had gone to guide the newly elected councilors. He said, “During this, important issues like taking forward the development works in the wards were discussed in detail.” Shinde stressed that his priority is to accelerate urban development. When journalists asked him about the mayor’s face in Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde said confidently, “Thane, Kalyan, Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, all these places will have a mayor from Mahayuti.” He further clarified, “Mumbai too will have a mayor from Mahayuti.”

It has become clear from Shinde’s statement that the alliance is united on the post of Mayor and a name can be approved soon. In the BMC elections, BJP has emerged as the largest party by winning 89 seats, but it has not got the majority on its own. However, its ally Shiv Sena (Shinde) has got 29 seats, taking the Grand Alliance closer to majority. Now it remains to be seen which face the Mahayuti bets on for the post of Mayor and when this suspense will be lifted.
