New method of PF withdrawal, money will be available from UPI-BHIM app from April; 25 thousand limit on first transaction

PF Withdrawal From UPI Limit: There is news of great relief for lakhs of employees associated with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). From April 2026, employees will be able to withdraw money directly from their EPF account through UPI. This feature will be available through BHIM app. Funds will be transferred directly to the bank account linked to UPI. With this, the process of withdrawing PF will become easier, faster and digital than before. This will especially benefit those employees who currently face difficulty in withdrawing money from the online portal.

How to withdraw money?

According to government officials, from April, EPFO members will be able to check the balance of their PF account through BHIM app. It will also be clearly visible how much money is eligible to be withdrawn and how much at least 25% balance is required in the account. Initially the withdrawal limit has been fixed at Rs 25000 per transaction. This step is being taken to prevent misuse of instant transactions.

Who will benefit more?

Blue-collar and unorganized sector employees are expected to benefit the most from this new facility. Many employees currently face problems in EPFO’s online portal or documentation process. Withdrawal through UPI will enable them to easily withdraw PF through mobile app. However, officials have also warned that frequent withdrawal of small amounts may exceed the annual withdrawal limit.

Be careful about the frequency of withdrawals

EPFO has set a limit on the amount of withdrawal as well as its frequency. If a member makes two or three withdrawals in quick succession. Even if the total amount is within the limit, further withdrawal will not be possible after the limit is reached. Therefore, members should keep in mind both the amount and frequency while making withdrawals. The government’s aim is to provide facilities, not to exhaust the retirement fund early.

Delay due to changes in labor code and rules

This feature could have been implemented earlier, but due to the notification of Labor Code in November and change in the rules for withdrawing PF in October, necessary changes had to be made in the software. Under the new rules, 75% of the amount can be withdrawn while it is necessary to keep 25% of the amount as minimum balance in the account. After incorporating these changes in the system, this feature is now in the final stage.

Rules for withdrawing PF have already been simplified

EPFO has already simplified the withdrawal rules. The 13 withdrawal categories have now been reduced to three. Important and special circumstances: Now partial withdrawal is allowed 10 times for studies and 5 times for marriage. Multiple withdrawals are allowed even in cases of illness. In case of unemployment, an option has been given to withdraw 75% of the amount immediately and the entire amount after one year. Overall, this facility to withdraw EPF through UPI is being considered a big step towards ensuring easy and fast access to retirement funds for millions of employees across the country.
