American student ‘brutalized’ in Delhi Metro, said – grabbed my breast and slapped my buttocks, I will never go to India
New Delhi. When Indian-origin Professor Gaurav Sabnis, an Indian-origin Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey, USA, came to know that one of his students was planning to visit India, he gave her some tips and warned her about incidents like molestation. Sabnis knew that a blonde American girl could also be a victim of unwanted attraction. Unfortunately, their fears came true when their student faced sexual harassment in a public place in India (Delhi Metro Molestation).

When this former student called me in November for suggestions for her India trip for a friend’s wedding, I told her, be on guard for sexual harassment. Especially in Delhi. Here, you’re just another blonde. There, you’ll be a target.
Sadly, came true.

Professor’s warning
Sabnis said that in November, a former student of hers came to her and told her that she was going on a trip to India. She was leaving for a week to attend a friend’s wedding. Gaurav said that he had alerted her about the possibilities of sexual exploitation in India. He wrote in the X-post that when my former student asked me for advice regarding her trip to India in November, I told her to be aware of sexual harassment. Especially in Delhi. Where you are another blonde woman. You will be the target there. Sadly, this proved to be true.

Sabnis has shared the message she received from her former student after the Indian tour. In which she told that when she reached India, many people wanted to take selfies and pictures with her. She refused many men for this but agreed to do it along with women and children.
The American woman said it was as you said. Many people asked me to take selfies. I thought you were exaggerating, but wow! After landing in Delhi, strangers started asking me to take selfies from the baggage carousel itself. She said she followed the advice of her Indian-American professor and rejected many other advices. She said that but for the sake of woman and children I would have agreed. And most of the time it was fun. But a very bitter and scary experience happened in Delhi Metro.
What happened in Delhi Metro?
The American woman described the horrifying incident in her message to Sabnis. She said that a minor boy in Delhi Metro appealed to her for a photo. Since the teenager was with his mother and sister, the woman accepted his request but what happened next was very shocking.
According to the American woman, a boy of about 14-15 years old first placed his hand on her shoulder. She was uncomfortable but decided not to say anything. After this the boy started arresting her. The American wrote in the message, ‘He directly grabbed my breast with force. He slapped my buttocks and started laughing as if he had made a joke.

The girl, filled with surprise and anger, caught hold of his collar. What happened next was even more surprising. The boy’s mother and sister defended him. He reportedly described the American woman’s reaction as ‘excessive’ and said that he had never seen a white girl before, so he got carried away.
Loves India, but will never go there again
In the message sent to the professor, the victim expressed surprise at such upbringing. She said that the India experience turned sour for her because of this incident. The American woman said that although she loves India, she will never go there again. She said that she would not go to South Asia at all.
