ICC ODI Rankings Update: Know the condition of India after losing the series to New Zealand, this is the ranking list

New Delhi: The three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand has been decided. New Zealand won the series 2-1, but Team India is still firmly in the number 1 position in the latest ICC ODI rankings. However, this defeat has made India’s position quite critical and now it has become challenging to remain on top.

What changed in the rating?

In the updated ODI rankings released by ICC on January 18, 2026, India’s rating has decreased from 121 to 119. That means, due to losing two matches in the series, the team lost a total of 2 rating points. On the other hand, New Zealand’s rating increased from 113 to 114.

Now there is a difference of only 5 rating points left between the two teams. That is, if New Zealand continues to perform well then India may snatch the number 1 crown.

When is the next ODI match?

The Indian team will now get its next big assignment in the ODI format in July 2026, when the team will tour England and play a three-match ODI series. Only after that a big change in the ranking is possible.
The matter of relief at the moment is that the T20 World Cup is going to be held in February-March, so the ODI rankings are likely to remain stable for the next few months.

India number 1 in T20 ranking also

Team India remains at first position in T20 International rankings. However, now all eyes are on the upcoming T20 World Cup, where the real test will be for all the teams. The world champion will be decided in March 2026 and based on that, a big change can be seen in the T20 rankings.

In short: India remains on top in ODIs despite the series defeat, but New Zealand has come very close. Now every match is going to be very important for Team India!
