Himachal Congress trapped in factionalism, will BJP play again in Rajya Sabha elections?
Once again factionalism among the Congress party has come to the fore in Himachal Pradesh. Big Congress leaders are now making statements against each other on the pretext of officials’ work. The matter has escalated so much that many Congress workers reached Hollyodge, his residence, carrying placards in support of Minister Vikramaditya. The workers raised slogans in his support outside his house. During this time Vikramaditya was also seen with him.
Himachal Government’s Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh had given a statement against outside IAS and IPS officers. He had said that IPS and IAS officers of UP and Bihar are playing with the interests of Himachal. When there was controversy over this statement, he said that he does not believe in confrontational politics but will not compromise with the interests of the people of the state at any cost.

CM gave advice
Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said on this matter that all the officers are doing good work and there is no dispute. However, later he scolded Minister Vikramaditya. He said that Vikramaditya should be concerned about his department and his statement about the officers is wrong. CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu gave this statement after meeting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
controversy in cabinet
After this statement of Vikramaditya Singh, division in the Himachal Pradesh cabinet has once again come to the fore. Some ministers are making statements against Vikramaditya while some have come out in his support. Ministers Jagat Singh Negi, Anirudh Singh, Rajesh Dharmani have given statements against Vikramaditya. At the same time, Education Minister Rohit Thakur has publicly supported Vikramaditya Singh.
Supporters reached Holly Lodge
This matter, which started with a statement, has now reached a show of strength. Under the leadership of Congress leader Yadupati Thakur, hundreds of Congress workers reached Hollyodge, Vikramaditya’s residence in Shimla. The youth raised slogans like ‘we were together, are together and will remain together’. Through this show of strength the workers tried to show the strength of Vikramaditya.
On this occasion, Vikramaditya Singh said that for him the interest of the state is supreme and he is working in accordance with the principles and thinking of his father, former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. He also said that he is fulfilling the responsibility given to him by the CM and the party with full responsibility. At the same time, his mother and former party president Pratibha Singh said that Minister Vikramaditya Singh expressed his views, the government also has its own opinion, there is no need to give undue importance to it. He said, ‘Vikramaditya Singh is an experienced leader and he knows when and how to express his views.’
Clash before Rajya Sabha seat
The Congress party has faced a crushing defeat in the Rajya Sabha elections held in 2024. Party candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi could not win the Rajya Sabha elections despite majority. Out of 40 Congress MLAs, 6 MLAs voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan and both the candidates got 34-34 votes.
After this, Harsh Mahajan was declared the winner through lottery system. The party took action against 6 MLAs and showed them the way out of the party. After this, by-elections were held and the Congress party again reached 40 MLAs. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was successful in saving his government.

Last time even before the Rajya Sabha elections, Minister Vikramaditya Singh was angry. At that time, he had cited the reason for his displeasure over not installing the statue of his father Virbhadra Singh, who was the Chief Minister of Himachal six times. In that incident, he had also resigned from the post of minister. However, later Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and the high command pacified the matter.
Will BJP play games?
Now, just a few months before the Rajya Sabha elections, Congress once again seems divided into factions. At present, Congress has 40 MLAs and BJP has 28 MLAs. Congress can easily win the assembly seat because in terms of numbers, the position of the Congress party appears to be strong but it is troubled by factionalism.
BJP is preparing to take advantage of the factionalism of Congress. BJP MP Anurag Thakur said that the way the ministers are fighting is a sign of growing up. He also said that the Congress clan has never disintegrated in the way it seems now.
Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh Indu Goswami is completing his six-year tenure on April 10. That means Rajya Sabha elections can be held before April. Even the seat considered easy for Congress may once again get into trouble. BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus-2’ is once again in the news.
