T20 World Cup: ICC gives ultimatum to Bangladesh who refused to play in India
New Delhi, 19 January 2026: Relations between India and Bangladesh cricket have become strained due to the exclusion of Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman from IPL. Also, Bangladesh had refused to come to India to play the next T20 World Cup citing security reasons. Not only this, Pakistan also extended its support to Bangladesh and showed its readiness to host Bangladesh’s match in its country. Meanwhile, ICCA has clearly told Bangladesh Cricket Board that they should inform by 21st January whether India will host the World Cup so that a decision regarding replacement can be taken. This decision of ICC has created panic in Bangladesh Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board.
According to sources, Bangladesh had requested ICC to change the venue of its matches in the World Cup citing security reasons. Now there is a new twist in this episode. ICCA has given ultimatum to Bangladesh Cricket Board.
According to the report, ICCA has asked BCB to inform whether or not to participate in the T20 World Cup by January 21 so that the next decision can be taken. On 17th January, ICC officials went to Dhaka and met with BCB officials. In which this ultimatum is known to have been given. During the meeting, Bangladesh officials were firm on not playing their matches in India.
It is worth mentioning here that ICCA has given an ultimatum to Bangladesh regarding the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, only days are left for the World Cup. Also, all the preparations are being completed by BCCI. If Bangladesh withdraws from the World Cup, there is a possibility of Scotland being included in its place. Bangladesh had made another submission to the ICC, asking for their team’s group to be swapped with the Islands. Whoever has been expelled by ICC.
