Team India considered New Zealand as a novice, but due to one mistake they had to face defeat.
New Delhi . The Indian team had to face 1-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The decisive match between the two teams was played on 18 January (Sunday) at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, where the Indian team lost by 41 runs. India had a target of 338 runs to win this match, but its innings was limited to 296 runs only. Virat Kohli definitely scored 124 runs, but it was not enough to lead the team to victory.
This ODI series victory of New Zealand under the leadership of Michael Bracewell is no less than a surprise. The Indian team had entered the ODI series with the tag of favourite, but it could not perform well. The Indian team probably took New Zealand lightly. Let us tell you that in this series, the Kiwi team entered without its senior batsman Kane Williamson, regular captain Mitchell Santner and star fast bowler Matt Henry.
All-rounder Rachin Ravindra and fast bowler Jacob Dabi were also rested for the ODI series. Jaden Lennox and Christian Clarke had come to play their first international series. This was the third ODI series for fast bowling all-rounder Zakari Foulkes and the fourth for wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay.
Less experience, but high enthusiasm
However, despite less experience, New Zealand defeated the Indian team. Indian team won in Vadodara ODI due to master class innings of Virat Kohli. But the performance of the Indian team in Rajkot and Indore ODI was not that good. Neither the batting was consistent nor the bowling was that impressive. The result was that New Zealand won the ODI series on Indian soil for the first time.
The Indian team could not break Daryl Mitchell in batting. Mitchell scored a half-century in the first ODI. Then played century innings in two consecutive matches. Mitchell scored a total of 352 runs at an average of 176. Anyway, Mitchell likes the Indian team a lot and he has so far scored four ODI centuries against this team. Will Young, Glenn Phillips, Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls also played well with the bat for the Kiwi team.
Fast bowlers Christian Clarke and Kyle Jameson performed well for New Zealand in this series. Clarke took 7 wickets in his debut series and he was the highest wicket taker in this series. Whereas Jameson took 6 wickets in his name.

These are positive points for India
If seen, the positive points of this series for the Indian team were the excellent performances of Virat Kohli and Harshit Rana. Maintaining his excellent form, Kohli scored 240 runs in 3 matches at an average of 80. Whereas Harshit Rana took 6 wickets and also scored 83 runs with the bat. KL Rahul also played a century in Rajkot ODI, which is a good sign for the team.
This series was disappointing for former Team India captain Rohit Sharma and he could only score 61 runs in 3 innings. Shreyas Iyer, who returned after recovering from injury, could also add only 60 runs. Experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja could not make an impact with both ball and bat.
