New Delhi. Who will take command of the party after JP Nadda? The ongoing discussions on this question have come to an end. Bihar’s youth leader Nitin Nabin has been elected the 12th national president of Bharatiya Janata Party. There was no other candidate apart from him in the nomination process completed on Monday, hence on Tuesday (January 20, 2026) he will be declared president unopposed.

This historic change is indicative of a generational leadership change in the party. 45-year-old Nitin Nabin is becoming the youngest national president in the history of BJP. He was holding the post of National Working President from 14 December 2025, and will now take over the responsibility of full-time President.

A total of 37 sets of nomination papers were filed in favor of Nitin Naveen in the nomination process which lasted from 2 pm to 4 pm on Monday at the party headquarters. These included a set of signatures of 37 MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was presented by the Parliamentary Board. National Election Officer K. Laxman confirmed that all the nominations were found valid and after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended at 5 pm, he announced that there was only one candidate i.e. Nitin Naveen.

Taking charge program today

A special function will be held at the party headquarters on Tuesday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, current President JP Nadda and other senior leaders will be present. JP Nadda will formally hand over the charge to Nitin Nabin.

Nitin Nabin has been MLA from Bihar five times and also a former minister. He is known as an organizer from Yuva Morcha, who has played an important role in strengthening the ground level of the party. This appointment is being considered as a sign of giving new energy to the party’s strategy and preparing it for the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

A ‘new’ era has begun in BJP, where there is a determination to further strengthen the organization with young leadership.
