ICC’s clear message to Bangladesh Board, play T20 World Cup in India or stay out
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has refused to send its team for the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India. BCB has requested ICC that its team should not play in India citing security reasons. ICC has now taken a tough stand in this matter.
Why did BCB object?
According to a report, Bangladesh will have to clarify by January 21 whether it will participate in the T20 World Cup 2026 or not. The ICC has made it clear that if the final decision is not taken by the stipulated deadline, the Bangladesh team can be thrown out of the tournament.
The report also said that if Bangladesh does not confirm its participation by January 21, the ICC will give a chance to an alternate team. In this situation, Scotland can be included in the T-20 World Cup.
T20WORLDCUP
It is noteworthy that T20 World Cup 2026 will start from 7th February. ICC does not want any kind of uncertainty regarding the participation of teams. If BCB remains firm on its decision, the situation may become even more complicated.
The ICC has made it clear that it cannot allow any team to play out of the tournament in the name of security, unless concrete and official reasons are presented. It has also been said that security arrangements will be ensured for all the participating teams in India.
Scotland may get a chance
According to sources, if Bangladesh itself decides to withdraw from the tournament, it may have to suffer huge losses. Under ICC rules, financial penalties can be imposed on the board in such cases and the possibility of a ban for future events also cannot be ruled out.
Now all eyes are on January 21, when it will be decided whether Bangladesh will play in the T20 World Cup 2026 or Scotland will get a chance.
