Now no petrol, Toyota will run on electricity, new Urban Cruiser EV with 500+ KM range launched in India
Toyota Electric SUV: The race for electric vehicles in India has now intensified. Toyota will launch its new electric car in the Indian market today i.e. on 20 January 2026. SUV Urban Cruiser EV Is going to launch. This is Toyota’s first mass market electric SUV, with which the company has made a big and strong entry in the electric segment. Till now Toyota’s focus has been on hybrid cars like Urban Cruiser Hyrider and Innova Hycross But after this launch, the company’s strategy is clearly changing.
Which vehicles will it give direct competition to?
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV has been launched in a segment where there is already tough competition. This SUV will directly compete with Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. It is believed that Toyota’s brand value and trustworthy image can make it special among the customers.
Design and interior: Focus on premium look
The front design of the Urban Cruiser EV is largely inspired by the Toyota Camry. It has single strip DRL with thin LED headlights, which gives it a modern look. This SUV is built on the HEARTECT-e platform of Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. The side profile gets diamond-cut alloy wheels and strong body cladding, while full-width LED taillights are provided at the rear. Talking about the interior, it has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Apart from this, features like glass roof, ventilated seats and floating center console make it a premium SUV.
Battery, range and performance
Two battery options are provided in Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
- 49 kWh Battery: 144 horsepower power
- 61 kWh battery: 174 horsepower power
With a large battery, this SUV can travel up to 543 kilometers on a single charge, making it a great option for long distance journeys.

Safety and Technology
Toyota has not made any compromise even in the matter of safety. This SUV is expected to get a 5-star BNCAP safety rating. It has advanced features like 7 airbags, 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS. Apart from this, ESC, TPMS and ABS along with EBD are also present, which make the drive more safe.
