Hey You Bastard Meena Youre A Damn Tribal Savage Living In A Muslim Institution Professor Riyazuddins Attack On A Dalit Student

A sensational incident of attack on a tribal man working on the post of Upper Division in the Polytechnic Department of Jamia Millia Islamia University by Riyazuddin, Associate Professor of Polytechnical Engineering Department, by allegedly using caste abuses has come to light. According to the Dalit clerk, the professor used caste-based insults to speak to her, “Hey bastard Meena, how dare you complain against me? You are a tribal barbarian, how dare you complain against me while living in the company of Muslims?”

Actually, according to Ram Phool Meena, who works on the post of Upper Division in the Polytechnic Department of Jamia Millia Islamia University, this was not an isolated incident. A complaint had already been filed against the Registrar against Professor Riazuddin for misbehavior with students in the university, in which the victim Ram Phool Meena had no involvement. However, the video related to that complaint went viral, after which the matter escalated further and Meena was targeted. Ram Meena alleges that after this incident he was verbally insulted, insulted on caste basis and he was also physically attacked. Ultimately he was transferred from the department.

According to the complaint, first at around 3:00 pm on January 13, Professor Riazuddin came to the office of the Polytechnic Department without any provocation and said to Ram Phool Meena, who was working at the desk, “Hey O Meena, you bastard Hindu Muslim does.” And “Meena, you are a scoundrel.” After objecting to this language, Professor Riazuddin became aggressive and abused the victim’s mother and sister.

Disturbed by the incident, the victim gave a written complaint to the Registrar of Jamia Millia on the same day, copies of which are attached with the complaint given to the police. However, despite filing a complaint with the university, no action was taken against the professor for two days, rather the complaint was forwarded to Professor Riazuddin, due to which the matter became even more heated.

On January 16, Professor Riazuddin returned to the office and allegedly violently assaulted the victim. The professor said, “Hey bastard Meena, how dare you complain against me? You are a tribal barbarian, how dare you complain against me while living in the presence of Muslims?” According to the complaint lodged with the police, Dr Riazuddin punched Ram Meena, resulting in bleeding from the victim’s lip and swelling under his left eye.

In the complaint, Meena has said that due to the attacks she has experienced severe mental trauma, depression and social humiliation. This ill-treatment they faced, especially at their workplace, is linked to their caste and tribal identity.

After this attack, the Dalit victim again went to the registrar office along with the principal. They lodged a written complaint demanding immediate action, this time the Registrar assured them that the matter would be taken seriously. However, in a shocking decision, instead of taking action against the professor, the university transferred the victim the same day. The victim has described the decision as vindictive, punitive and intended to silence him.

In the complaint given to Delhi Police, Ram Meena has sought registration of FIR under the Scheduled Caste-Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1889 along with relevant provisions of the Indian Code of Justice.

According to Ram Meena, the atrocities committed against him are not limited to the complaint lodged with the police. In the university, he is allegedly being pressurized directly and indirectly for religious conversion. Many people in the campus have many times called him ‘Kafir’, which is used in an inhuman and extremely derogatory manner.

After repeated incidents of coercion, discrimination, violence, administrative retaliation in Jamia Millia Islamia University, the case of harassment of Ram Phool Meena has once again brought the university under the scanner. Critics are raising questions on policy makers that despite such activities in the university, is it appropriate for the central government to continue funding an institution which has been accused of imposing religious fanaticism and solidarity and giving retaliatory punishment against its opponents?
