iPhone 17e Can Have Dynamic Island, But 120Hz Display Can Be Missed

Apple’s next affordable iPhone is expected to introduce a noticeable design change while skipping a major display upgrade.

The upcoming device is likely to be called the iPhone 17e.

Apple iPhone 17e Tipped to Get New Design but Miss Out on Display Upgrade

A well-known leaker on Weibo claims the iPhone 17e will feature a Dynamic Island instead of the traditional notch, a shift first spotted by MacRumors.

This change would make Apple’s lower-cost iPhone visually closer to its recent mainstream models.

The Dynamic Island combines the front camera and sensors into an interactive top-screen area that shows live activities like navigation, music playback, and call status.

Despite the new design, the iPhone 17e is not expected to include ProMotion technology.

The phone is tipped to keep a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Other iPhone 17 models reportedly offer up to 120Hz refresh rates, making the 17e the exception.

Apple appears to be retaining the standard 60Hz panel to keep the device more affordable.

The current iPhone 16e uses an iPhone 14-style design with a notch.

iPhone 17e to Adopt iPhone 15-Style Design with Dynamic Island

If leaks are accurate, the iPhone 17e will instead resemble the iPhone 15, which introduced the Dynamic Island and a more rounded chassis to non-Pro models.

The same leaker says the iPhone 17e will upgrade to the new A19 chip, replacing the A18 in the iPhone 16e.

The A19 chip is built on TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process.

It is expected to deliver roughly five to ten percent gains in raw CPU performance.

Another source claims Apple may use a downclocked version of the A19, making overall performance closer to the A17 Pro, except for Neural Engine improvements.

Reports suggest Apple may finally add a magnetic ring for MagSafe charging, which is missing from the iPhone 16e.

To cut costs, the phone could use an older C1 or C1X modem.

It may also skip Apple’s newer N1 wireless chip, based on references found in leaked code.

The remaining specifications are expected to stay familiar.

The iPhone 17e is likely to include a 12-megapixel front camera with Face ID.

It is also expected to feature a single 48-megapixel rear camera.
