India will organize a roundtable meeting to increase maritime exports, more than 80 countries will participate.
The Central Fisheries Department will organize a roundtable meeting to promote the country’s marine exports on January 21, in which ambassadors and high commissioners from 83 countries will participate. This information was given by the government on Tuesday (January 20).
India is the world’s sixth largest exporter of fish and fishery products. In 2024-25, exports of seafood reached 16.98 lakh metric tonnes, valued at Rs 62,408 crore ($7.45 billion) and contributed about 18 per cent of India’s total agricultural exports.
Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Production Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will preside over this program. On this occasion, Ministers of State George Kurien and S.P. Singh Baghel will also be present. Ambassadors and High Commissioners from Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, Oceania and Latin America and the Caribbean will participate in the event.
The roundtable meeting will also be attended by senior officials from central ministries and international agencies like Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Agence Française de Development (AFD), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Bay of Bengal Program (BOBP), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The conference serves as an important diplomatic and technical platform for systematic dialogue on seafood trade, market access, regulatory cooperation and emerging opportunities to strengthen bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
The main objective of the talks is to promote sustainable, traceable and value-added seafood trade, as well as explore avenues of investment, joint ventures, technology transfer and capacity building, the official statement said.
The statement further said that the outcomes of the conference are expected to contribute significantly to strengthening food security, improving livelihoods in fisheries value chains and advancing the shared goals of sustainability, resilience and inclusive growth.
