Toyota’s first electric SUV launched in India: 500 km range, Level-2 ADAS, what is the price?
New Delhi: Toyota has unveiled its first electric car in the Indian market. The company has introduced Urban Cruiser Ebella, which is the electric incarnation of the Urban Cruiser. This car is a rebadged version of Maruti’s e Vitara, that is, both the vehicles share the same platform, battery pack and technology, although there are clear differences in their look and design.
Urban Cruiser Ebella, which has entered the rapidly growing compact electric SUV segment, is considered special due to its distinct styling, feature-loaded cabin, two battery options and long range. Booking of this electric SUV has been started from today for Rs 25 thousand.
Futuristic appeal in design
The Urban Cruiser Ebella, despite being based on the Vitara, creates a distinct front profile. To give it a more futuristic look, Toyota has given it thick bumpers, air dams, body cladding, gloss black grille and faux skid plate. Along with this, LED headlamps and pixel-style LED DRLs give it a powerful look.
The SUV has 18-inch alloy wheels, shark fin antenna and large windows. The side profile is quite similar to the e Vitara, while at the rear, its coupe-style design, sharp body lines, integrated rear spoiler and connected LED taillamps make it look premium.
interior
The cabin of the Urban Cruiser Ebella is also similar to the e Vitara. It has gloss black inserts with black and tan color theme. The dashboard design is simple but futuristic, which includes a dual-screen setup and vertical AC vents.
The new twin-spoke steering wheel, gear-selector knob in the center console and well-placed physical buttons make the cabin easy to use. Large space for the rear passengers, large windows, fixed glass roof and slide and recline function further enhance the comfort.
Long list of features
Urban Cruiser Ebella is also far ahead in terms of features. It gets a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with wireless connectivity), fixed glass roof, ventilated front seats and 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat.
Apart from this, JBL sound system, ambient lighting, PM2.5 cabin air filter, ride-by-wire technology and many drive modes are also provided.
Special focus on safety
In terms of safety, Urban Cruiser Ebella has been provided with 7 airbags and level-2 ADAS, which includes front and rear blind-spot alerts. Along with this, 360-degree camera, front and rear sensors, electronic parking brake, electronic stability control and tire pressure monitoring system are also available.
e Vitara has got 5-star rating in India NCAP and 4-star rating in Euro NCAP, hence the same level of safety is expected from Ebella also.
Powertrain, range and charging
Urban Cruiser Ebella will come in India with two battery pack options and both will have a single electric motor. In the Indian market it will be available only with front-wheel drive. This EV supports AC and DC fast charging. The company claims that once fully charged, this electric SUV can give a range of up to 543 kilometers.
