Sunita Williams: Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams retired from NASA after 27 years. Sunita Williams has spent a total of 608 days in space in her illustrious career as an astronaut with NASA. This is the second longest time spent by any NASA astronaut. The Indian-origin astronaut joined NASA in 1998 and has spent 608 days in space in her three flights. He is sixth on the list of longest single spaceflights by an American, tied with NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore, who both spent 286 days aboard NASA’s Boeing Starliner and SpaceX Crew-9 missions. Sunita Williams’ father was a neuroanatomist, born in Jhulasan in Mehsana district of Gujarat, but later moved to the United States and married Bonnie Pandya, who was Slovenian.
Sunita Williams was born on September 19, 1965 in Euclid, Ohio, and grew up in Needham, Massachusetts. Williams and her husband, Michael, enjoy walking their dogs, working out, working on houses, cars, airplanes, hiking and camping.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical science from the United States Naval Academy in 1987 and then a master’s degree from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1995.
Williams began his career as a helicopter pilot in the United States Navy, flying more than 3,000 hours in more than 30 different aircraft types and completing numerous overseas missions.
