Indecent behavior with women case: DGP Ramchandra Rao suspended, Home Minister said – whether the post is big or small, action is decided

Bengaluru. On the controversy related to DGP Ramachandra Rao of Karnataka State Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate, State Home Minister Dr. G. God has taken a firm stance. He clearly said that such incidents do not bring respect to anyone, no matter how senior or high position he holds. If proven guilty, strict action will be taken without any hesitation.

Speaking to the media near his residence in Bengaluru on Tuesday, the Home Minister said that he came to know about this entire matter during lunch on Monday. He said, “I was not well, but as soon as I got the information, I immediately took the report from the officials and discussed it with the Chief Minister. Not only the police department, but any department cannot tolerate such incidents.”

Chief Minister expressed displeasure, instructions for immediate suspension
The Home Minister said that the Chief Minister also expressed deep displeasure over this episode and directed to immediately suspend DGP Ramachandra Rao and conduct an investigation. He said that despite being a senior officer, action was necessary and the government has to take tough decisions in difficult circumstances.

Calling the allegations made by Ramachandra Rao false, the Home Minister said that the truth will come out in the investigation. “This matter has tarnished the institutional reputation, hence immediate suspension was necessary. All aspects of the investigation will be reviewed in the coming days and appropriate action will be taken,” he said.

What did the Home Minister say on the demand for arrest?
On BJP’s demand for arrest of Ramachandra Rao, the Home Minister said that at present necessary action has been taken. Further action will be decided based on the findings of the investigation. He indicated that if necessary, drastic measures like dismissal from service could also be taken.

Preparation to interrogate daughter Ranya Rao also
Meanwhile, DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) has issued a notice to Ramachandra Rao’s daughter Ranya Rao for questioning in a case related to illegal gold smuggling. Earlier in this case, a charge memo has been issued against Ramachandra Rao for misuse of government vehicle. Ranya Rao is also accused of misuse of government vehicle.

Departmental investigation already underway
Orders for a departmental inquiry have already been given regarding this entire matter. Director General of Police Salim has issued an official order in this regard. It is alleged that Ramachandra Rao, while being IGP, had behaved indecently while wearing uniform in the office.

According to sources, DRI officials have already interrogated Ramachandra Rao and Ranya Rao for a long time. In the investigation, many aspects like their mutual relationship, role in alleged gold smuggling, misuse of protocols and Ranya Rao traveling to Dubai more than 20 times in two months are being thoroughly investigated.
