Nagpur : Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has praised Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir. Tharoor made this comment during the first T20 match played in Nagpur, where he described Gambhir as the person carrying one of India’s most challenging responsibilities.

“The most difficult responsibility after the Prime Minister”
Commenting on the role of Gautam Gambhir, Shashi Tharoor said that being the coach of the Indian cricket team is the toughest job in the country after that of the Prime Minister. He said that while holding this position, every decision is in the eyes of millions of people and has to go through public scrutiny every day, yet he maintains serious restraint and determination.

He wrote that he was happy to talk to his old friend in Nagpur and also said that despite facing criticism from millions of people every day, Gambhir remains steadfast in his goal without any fear. Tharoor described his calm determination and capable leadership as praiseworthy.

This comment of Shashi Tharoor has come at a time when Gautam Gambhir has recently faced criticism. India had to face 2-1 defeat in the home ODI series against New Zealand. After winning the first match, Team India lost the next two matches, due to which questions were raised on the coaching strategy.

This home series defeat against New Zealand was India’s second major failure in recent years. Earlier in 2024, the Kiwi team had made a clean sweep of India 3-0 in the home Test series. In such an environment, Tharoor’s statement is being seen as moral support for Gambhir.
