Pakistan supports Bangladesh amid match relocation crisis
The Bangladesh government has requested support from Pakistan regarding an ICC decision involving an ongoing dispute between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has pledged its support, communicating to the ICC its backing of the BCB’s request to relocate venues from India to Sri Lanka.
According to some unverified claims, the PCB has suggested that if matches cannot be moved to Sri Lanka, they should be shifted to Pakistan; the board is reportedly reviewing its own participation in the World Cup, though no official statement has been released.
The standoff began when the BCCI asked the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rehman from the IPL 2026. The BCCI cited “external developments,” widely interpreted as a reaction to rising political tensions.
In response, the Bangladesh government protested in all international forums and refused to play its World Cup matches in India due to security concerns and demanded a move to Sri Lanka.
The ICC has convened a board meeting on Wednesday and set a deadline for Bangladesh to confirm its participation under the original schedule or risk being replaced by Scotland, the next highest-ranked non-qualifier.
