Prayagraj20 January. After the controversy that arose while going for Sangam bath sitting on a palanquin on the day of Mauni Amavasya during Prayagraj Magh Mela 2025-26, the fair development authority has raised questions about the post of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand of Jyotishpeeth.
The Magh Mela Development Authority sent a notice to the Shankaracharya camp at midnight on Sunday and sought a reply within 24 hours. In the notice, the authority has said that despite the order passed in the case pending in the Supreme Court, declaring oneself as Shankaracharya of Jyotishpeeth falls in the category of disobeying the order of the court.
Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand’s lawyer PP Mishra said that the Prayagraj fair administration had sought a reply from Swami Avimukteshwaranand through a notice. The notice is unfortunate and has been issued out of vindictiveness. Everyone has the right to religious freedom.
Supreme Court did not give any order
Advocate PP Mishra said, ‘We will first issue notices to these officers. Expecting their reply. If they say that we made a mistake then we will also consider not taking action. But if no reply is received then we will take direct action against them and file a case in the Supreme Court. We will appeal to the state government and the Governor to file a separate case against them under relevant sections. If the government doesn’t do it then we will go to court. Without the orders of the Supreme Court, these officers have gone to comply with them.
Allegation of disobeying Supreme Court order
However, the fair administration claims that there is a ban on the consecration of the post of Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth till further orders by the Supreme Court. Despite this, Shankaracharya has been written in front of the name of Swami Avimukteshwaranand on the board of the camp organized in Magh Mela. The fair administration has written in the notice that this work is in violation of the court orders.
