Tragic road accident in Udaipur, jeep full of passengers fell into a ditch, 27 people were on board… 3 died on the spot, many injured.
Rajasthan : A horrific road accident in the tribal dominated Kotra area of Udaipur district on Wednesday afternoon shocked the entire area. A jeep packed with passengers went out of control and fell into a ditch about 60 feet deep. In this tragic accident, three people died on the spot, while 17 others were seriously injured.
brakes failed while climbing
Let us tell you that this accident happened near Dingawari village of Kotra police station area at around 12.30 in the afternoon. According to the information, the jeep was going from Bilwan village towards Kotra. While climbing the hilly road, suddenly the brakes of the vehicle stopped working. The driver tried to control the jeep, but due to excessive passengers, he could not control the vehicle and the jeep slipped and fell into a deep ditch.
Villagers started rescue work
Hearing the loud sound of the accident, the nearby villagers immediately reached the spot. Without wasting any time, he started relief and rescue operations and helped in pulling the injured out of the ditch. Along with this, police and ambulance were informed. Within a short time, Kotra police station and 108 ambulance reached the spot.
The injured were taken to hospital
All the injured were first taken to Kotra Hospital, where after first aid, seven seriously injured people were referred to Udaipur for better treatment. A huge crowd of family members gathered in the hospital premises and the atmosphere became sombre.
Identification of the dead and post mortem process
Those who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as Kalu (25) son of Narsa Garasia, Reshmi (35) wife of Vakhta Garasia and Suresh (8) son of Roshan Garasia. The bodies of all three have been kept in the mortuary of Kotra Hospital. The police have informed the family members and post-mortem proceedings are underway.
Most of the riders were from the same village
It is being told that most of the deceased and injured people are residents of Maldar village of Mandwa police station area. As soon as the news of the accident reached the village, a wave of mourning ran there. The family members are in bad condition and there is mourning in the entire village.
Overloading becomes a big problem in inaccessible areas
Kotada region is considered an inaccessible and tribal area of Rajasthan, where the means of public transport are very limited. Under compulsion, people depend on private jeeps. A large number of jeeps operate in the area, often carrying far more passengers than their capacity. The jeep that met with the accident also had 27 passengers, more than the prescribed limit.
Questions raised on administrative negligence
Local people say that road accidents have become common in this area due to overloading, but no concrete action is taken by the transport department and administration. After this accident, the demand for safe transportation system and strict action against overloaded vehicles has once again intensified.
Police engaged in investigation, assistance process started
Police has started the investigation of the matter. In the preliminary investigation, brake failure and overloading are considered to be the main reasons for the accident. The administration has also started the process of arranging treatment for the injured and providing financial assistance to the families of the deceased.
