Big injury scare sees India player leave field in 1st T20 against New Zealand

Team India all-rounder Axar Patel was injured during the first T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday. The incident took place when he tried to catch the ball after Daryl Mitchell struck it hard. Axar used his left hand and was struck on his index finger. He left the field with the physio after bleeding from his finger and was replaced by Ravi Bishnoi.
Abhishek Sharma bowled the remaining three deliveries of the over. An injury to one of the consistent performers is a concern for the team management, as he is the vice-captain of the team. The BCCI and the team didn’t provide any update on Axar’s injury.
Meanwhile, Abhishek scored 84 runs off 35 balls, laced with 8 sixes and 5 boundaries. Rinku Singh amassed an unbeaten 44 runs, and Varun Chakaravarthy and Shivam Dube took two wickets each, leading India to a 48-run win over New Zealand in the first T20I at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
Rinku faced 20 balls and hit four boundaries and three maximums to take the score to 238/7 in 20 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya posted 32 and 25 in the series opener. Chasing 239, New Zealand were 52/3 before Glenn Phillips played one of the best innings of his career. However, the loss of wickets in quick succession restricted the Kiwis to 190/7 in their 20 overs, as the host nation took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya took a scalp each. Jasprit Bumrah failed to trouble the batters, but India would be worried about Axar’s injury.
