Ghulam’s heartbreaking setback

Rani opened up about a tough early experience on the set of Ghulam, her second film starring opposite Aamir Khan. During shooting, Aamir explained that her voice was “not apt” for the character Alisha, so someone else would dub it over, citing examples like Sridevi. Though upsetting, Rani chose to stay professional. She said, “I could not show the fact that I was upset because you need to be a team player when you are part of the film… Even if there are personal disappointments, it does not matter if the intent is true for the film.”

Karan’s game-changing trust

In stark contrast, Karan Johar embraced Rani’s unique husky voice for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, filming simultaneously with Ghulam. He knew about the dubbing issue but insisted she dub herself, saying he liked her voice and wanted it in his film. This pivotal support helped Rani own her identity as an actor. Rani recalled getting emotional during the chat, thanking Karan profusely for that faith, which came at a vulnerable time as a newcomer.

 Journey to Mardaani 3

Now a seasoned star with hits like Black and Hichki, Rani returns as tough cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3, promising a dark, deadly, and brutal story of good versus evil. The Yash Raj Films project aligns with themes of triumph, timed just before Holi 2026. Rani’s reflections highlight her resilience, from voicing doubts to National Award wins, inspiring fans with her authentic path in Bollywood.
