Talking about his selection, Sambhaji Sasane says, “I got a call from Sanjay Jhankar sir and after a few days we met. I thought there would be an audition or further discussion. But then I was told directly ‘You are not the kind of boy we are looking for.’ That moment was a bit disappointing. But after two-three weeks I got a call again and was told that I am a part of the film. There was so much joy at that moment. I am deeply grateful to the team for believing in me.”
Sheetal Patil’s experience is somewhat similar. She says, “When I was called for the audition, I thought it would be a small role. After the audition, I saw the reaction of the director and the producers, and I realized that nothing was right. So I didn’t expect much. But a few days later, I suddenly got a call saying that I have been selected for the lead role. It is every actor’s dream to appear as a lead actress on the big screen, and ‘Rubab’ fulfilled my dream.”
Explaining the reason behind this choice, director Shekhar Bapu Rankhambe and producer Sanjay Jhankar say, “Initially the auditions for both were not what we expected. But Sheetal’s face, eyes and personality were perfect for the role. During the workshop, she proved herself completely. Both Sambhaji and Sheetal nailed their roles diligently and today they are our heroes and heroines.”
