Trump’s ‘Peace Board’ Putin’s challenge! Palestinian President arrives in Russia; Moscow ready to give 1 billion
Mahmoud Abbas Russia Visit: Global politics seems to be divided into two poles regarding peacekeeping and reconstruction in Gaza. On one hand, in Davos, Switzerland, US President Donald Trump is presenting his ambitious ‘Gaza Peace Board’ On the other hand, Palestine Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reached Russia’s capital Moscow.
President Vladimir Putin welcomed Abbas in the Kremlin in what is being seen as a major diplomatic counterattack against Trump’s peace initiative.
Putin’s ‘shah’ on sidelining Abbas;
Mahmoud Abbas’s visit to Moscow is being considered extremely important because America has not only kept him out of the Gaza Peace Board but has also not included him in its Development Committee. Not only this, the Trump administration has also refused to accept Abbas’s presidency in recent times. Taking advantage of this situation, Putin met Abbas and indicated his support to the angry groups of Gaza.
Putin’s 1 billion bet
During the meeting, Vladimir Putin expressed his desire to join the Gaza Peace Board, but also played a big diplomatic gamble. Putin said that Russia is ready to provide $1 billion for the reconstruction of Gaza if the US lifts sanctions on Russian seized assets. Experts believe that through this Putin wants to use the Gaza crisis to reduce the economic sanctions imposed on Russia.
What is Trump’s Gaza Peace Board?
The purpose of this board formed by Donald Trump is to restore permanent peace in the Gaza area and strengthen the infrastructure there. The command of this board is in the hands of Trump himself and he is playing the role of its chairman. A contribution of $1 billion has been earmarked to achieve permanent membership of the board.

Under the proposal, there is a plan to build about two lakh buildings in Gaza, which includes security bunkers, hospitals, community centers as well as the development of a new port. However, there is resentment among the local organizations of Gaza about this board, because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been included in it but the Palestinian leadership (Abbas) has been sidelined.
