Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a major public meeting in Maduranthakam tomorrow marking a high-profile political event ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The rally — seen as the launchpad of the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) poll campaign in the State — is expected to draw large crowds and senior alliance leaders.
Extensive security preparations have been made across Chengalpattu district, with multiple layers of protection deployed for the Prime Minister’s visit. A three-day ban on drones and unmanned aerial vehicles has been imposed in the area from January 21 to 23 in view of the event.
Modi is scheduled to arrive in Chennai in the afternoon, take a helicopter to Maduranthakam and address the public meeting between 3:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. before returning to Chennai.
The rally will feature prominent leaders from the AIADMK-BJP alliance and other NDA partners, underscoring the opposition bloc’s united front against the incumbent DMK government.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, Tamil Maanila Congress chief G.K. Vasan, AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, IJK chief Pari Vendhar and other allied party representatives are expected on stage with the Prime Minister, projecting strength and solidarity.
Organisers have made elaborate arrangements for crowd management and security, with central and state forces coordinating closely at the venue and surrounding routes.
Traffic advisories and diversions are likely along the Chennai–Maduranthakam national highway to facilitate smooth movement during the event.
The Maduranthakam meeting is viewed as a key milestone in the NDA’s campaign strategy in Tamil Nadu, aimed at energising supporters and showcasing cohesion after seat-sharing talks and alliance realignments.
Political observers say this event could shape the momentum of the upcoming electoral contest in the State.
Meanwhile yesterday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has welcomed the return of TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK) to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), saying the development strengthens the alliance and will help build a “prosperous Tamil Nadu.”
Amit Shah made the remarks on social media, emphasising that people in the state are keen for change and ready to embrace the Modi‑led NDA for growth and development.
Amit Shah highlighted that the AMMK rejoining the NDA coalition comes at a crucial time ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and expressed confidence that the alliance will take the state to “newer heights of development and prosperity.”
