Prime Minister Modi spoke to the President of Brazil: Many issues including interests of the Global South were discussed
New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and stressed that close cooperation is necessary to advance the common interests of the ‘Global South’. The Prime Minister also said that he looks forward to welcoming the President of Brazil to India soon.
“It was a pleasure to speak to President Lula,” Modi said in a post on ‘X’. We reviewed the progress in the India-Brazil strategic partnership, which is set to scale new heights in the coming year.” He said, ”Our close cooperation is extremely important to advance the common interests of the Global South. I look forward to welcoming them to India soon.”Global South’ refers to the group of developing and underdeveloped countries.
President Lula will visit India in February 2026
According to reports, Brazilian President Lula will visit India in February 2026. Both sides are considering this visit as a ‘major milestone’ in bilateral relations. Lula had confirmed in August last year that he would pay a state visit to India in early 2026. Diplomatic experts believe that during this visit, India and Brazil can together announce a major economic agreement or a joint strategy to respond to America’s tariff war.
