Why Bangladesh Refused to Play T20 World Cup in India: Bangladesh Cricket Board regarding T20 World Cup to be held in India (BCB) Has finally opened up about why he refused to go to India. BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul said that the fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman The biggest and decisive turning point of this decision was its exclusion from the IPL franchise due to security reasons.
While talking to the media in Dhaka, Bulbul made it clear that Mustafizur was neither injured, nor did he himself IPL Had withdrawn his name from BCB nor had BCB canceled his NOC. Despite this, he was removed from the team citing security reasons. According to Bulbul, this incident became a ‘red flag’ for Bangladesh cricket. He told that as soon as BCB got information about this decision, ICC was contacted on January 4.
‘BCB suggested a solution instead of conflict’
Bulbul said, “If a player can be removed from the league in the name of security, then how can those concerns be ignored in a big tournament like the World Cup?” He said that despite this, BCB suggested a solution instead of confrontation.
ICC rejected Bangladesh’s proposal
Bulbul said that neutral venues and hybrid models have already been adopted in ICC tournaments for security reasons, such as the Champions Trophy. On similar lines, Bangladesh suggested that they should play the World Cup, but outside India, in Sri Lanka or any other safe country. However, ICC rejected this proposal of Bangladesh. Bulbul confirmed that voting took place on this in the ICC meeting, but he is not allowed to share the details of the votes. He said that this stance of ICC is very worrying for Bangladesh.
BCB President warned
The BCB president warned that if Bangladesh is thrown out of the T20 World Cup, it will be detrimental to global cricket. He said, “Bangladesh is a big cricket market with a population of about 20 crores. If we do not play the World Cup, ICC will lose a huge audience.” Linking this issue to the future, Bulbul said that cricket is going to be a part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, 2032 Brisbane Olympics and 2036 Olympics (which India wants to host). At such a time, keeping any big cricket country out would be a wrong message for the game.
Bulbul called players’ opinion a ‘personal matter’
Bulbul refused to say much on the players’ opinion and called it a ‘personal matter’. He also rejected reports that the players were given the option to come to India under tight security, while the media and fans were to be barred. He said that no such conversation took place.
Bulbul angry over ICC’s 24-hour ultimatum
Bulbul was also angry at the alleged 24-hour ultimatum given by ICC. He said, “No global organization can impose a deadline of 24 hours. We will continue our fight.” In the end he said bluntly, “We want to play the World Cup, but not in India. Our team is ready.”
