A senior official of the state CEO’s office said that there were errors at some places in the counting form filled by Shami, due to which he was called for hearing. After the hearing, cricketer Mohammed Shami said, “I think SIR is not something that is causing you any harm. It is your responsibility to get the correction done, to get your name included in the voter list. They had called me. I had no problem in coming here. They handled things well, the verification process was done well. I have been here for 20-25 years, if they call me again, I will come.”
Let us tell you that Shami, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, has been living in Kolkata for many years because of his cricket career. This cricketer is registered as a voter of ward number 93 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, which comes under Rash Behari assembly constituency. The Election Commission has issued notices to Indian fast bowler and his brother Mohammad Kaif to appear for hearing.
“Shami could not come for hearing on the earlier scheduled date as he was representing Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot. Hence, a fresh date was given,” the election official said. He moved to Kolkata at an early age on the advice of his coach. Shami later came under the guidance of former Bengal Ranji captain and coach Sambaran Bandyopadhyay and made it to the Bengal Under-22 team.
