Oscars 2026 nomination list unveiled
On Thursday, January 22nd, the final nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, or Oscars 2026, were announced. This list was eagerly awaited worldwide. This year’s nominations include many films that won audiences’ hearts in 2025 with their compelling storytelling, superb direction, and outstanding acting.
India’s journey of ‘homebound’
Karan Johar’s film “Homebound” was nominated from India. The film made it to the top 15 shortlist but failed to secure a spot in the final nominations. Nevertheless, it is considered a significant achievement for Indian cinema.
Competing in the Best Film category
A total of 10 films have received nominations in the Best Picture category this year. These include Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, and Train Dreams. Notably, three Warner Bros. films have secured a spot in this category.
Best Actor and Actress nominations
The Best Actor category includes prominent names like Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).
Meanwhile, Emma Stone (Bugonia), Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue) and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value) have received nominations in the Best Actress race.
Competition in Supporting Roles
Best Supporting Actor includes veterans like Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn and Stellan Skarsgard.
Elle Fanning, Wunmi Mosaku and Teyana Taylor have received nominations in the Best Supporting Actress category.
The charm of direction and international films
The Best Director race includes names like Chloe Zhao, Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler.
Films from Brazil, France, Norway, Spain and Tunisia have made it to the Best International Feature Film category.
Story and Screenplay
Films like Sinners, Marty Supreme, Hamnet and Frankenstein have received nominations in the Best Original and Adapted Screenplay category.
