New Delhi: Tension is increasing between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council regarding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh has clearly said that it will not participate in the World Cup matches to be held in India. The Board believes that the safety of players is the biggest issue in the current situation and there cannot be any compromise on it. With this situation, Bangladesh has also indicated boycott of the World Cup.
sports advisor’s statement
Asif Nazrul, sports advisor to the Bangladesh government, gave a strong statement after talking to the players. He said that the ICC did not treat Bangladesh fairly, so the pressure to play in India will not be tolerated. He also said that if Bangladesh does not participate in the World Cup, its consequences should be understood at the global level. After this statement the controversy increased and BCB directly clashed with BCCI.
ICC’s ultimatum and BCB’s position
The ICC had made it clear to Bangladesh that the venue of the T20 World Cup will not be changed outside India. Despite this, BCB is adamant on its decision. Despite the meetings held between the players and the board, there has been no change in the situation regarding the India tour. From this it has become clear that this matter is no longer limited to the scope of cricket only.
Is Bangladesh forgetting India’s contribution?
The role of India and BCCI has been very important in the situation Bangladesh cricket is in today. When Bangladesh was not even a full member of the ICC in 1998, the then ICC President Jagmohan Dalmiya decided to organize the ICC Knockout Tournament in Bangladesh. This event gave Bangladesh recognition in international cricket and laid the foundation for its future.
Importance of Indian support
Bangladesh took 23 years to achieve Test status, after becoming an Associate Member of the ICC in 1977. Match wins over Pakistan and Scotland in the 1999 World Cup strengthened its claim. After this, India supported Bangladesh, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka also decided to stand on its behalf. In June 2000, the ICC unanimously granted Test status to Bangladesh, in which India’s role proved decisive.
Impact on global cricket politics
Bangladesh played its first Test match against India in November 2000. BCCI has always supported Bangladesh cricket and regular series have been organized between the two countries. In such a situation, Bangladesh’s tough stance regarding the T20 World Cup raises many questions. This conflict is not limited to the cricket issue only, but it can also affect global cricket politics.
