Electricity company warns, fine will have to be paid if commercial activities are found in residential premises, gave this advice

There are many consumers in Madhya Pradesh who conduct business activities in their homes but their electricity meter is domestic only. Madhya Pradesh Central Region Electricity Distribution Company has warned such consumers that if this situation is detected during checking, heavy fine will be levied. The electricity company has advised such consumers to take non-domestic i.e. commercial meter connection.

The electricity company has asked those consumers who run rest houses, guest houses, paying guests, private hostels or other business activities like coaching classes, beauty parlors etc. in their residential premises to get their meter connections converted from domestic to non-domestic (commercial) category by applying online through the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Distribution Company’s Saral Samman portal or UPAY app.

The electricity company has also appealed to the consumers to consume electricity according to the purpose for which the consumer has taken the connection, that is, if a consumer has taken a domestic (light and fan) connection, then he should only use that premises as a residence.

The company has said that during the intensive checking campaign, if any type of business activity is being conducted in residential premises, then such activities will be considered as non-domestic purpose and fine will be recovered from the concerned guilty consumer.

Consumers should get their connection checked and according to the purpose for which the connection has been taken, go to the electricity company’s simple connection portal or UPAY app and apply online to convert it into the relevant tariff category by applying online as per the purpose of the connection.
