Delhi: The auction process of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been completed and now all the teams are busy in strategy and preparations for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, a big news has come out regarding Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Speculations about change in the ownership of this popular team associated with great batsman Virat Kohli have intensified.

Adar Poonawala in the race to buy RCB

Adar Poonawala, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pune-based leading vaccine manufacturing company Serum Institute of India, has shown keen interest in buying RCB. He has indicated on social media that in the coming few months, he is preparing to make a strong bid for RCB, one of the most talked about teams of IPL. However, no official information has been revealed yet regarding the date and process of bidding.

The deal may be done before IPL 2026

IPL 2026 is going to start in the month of March and before that it is expected that the process regarding the ownership of RCB will be completed. In such a situation, it is being speculated that Adar Poonawala can be seen in the stands as the new owner of RCB during the next season.

Current value and ownership of RCB

If we talk about the value of the team, then according to the report of Forbes India, the estimated value of RCB is around 105 million dollars, i.e. approximately Rs 962 crore. At present, RCB is owned by United Spirits Limited (USL). USL, the Indian arm of global liquor giant Diageo, took over the franchise from Vijay Mallya in 2015–16.

RCB’s popularity increased after the first trophy

RCB, which has been a part of IPL since 2008, created history by winning the title for the first time in 2025. After this achievement, there was a tremendous increase in the brand value and fan following of the team, due to which the interest of investors has increased further.

Other contenders also in the fray

Adar Poonawala is not alone in the race to buy RCB. The famous production company of Kannada film industry, Hombale Films, is also said to be involved in this race. This company, which has made its mark through blockbuster films like ‘KGF’ and ‘Kantara’, is also keen to invest in franchises.

Now everyone’s eyes are on who will take charge of RCB and in which direction this big decision will be taken before IPL 2026.
