Volkswagen starts assembly of Tayron R-Line in India; set for March launch

New Delhi: Volkswagen have started the local assembly of their forthcoming flagship SUV, Tayron R-Line at their plant in Maharashtra. The seven-seater SUV will be launched in India by March of this year. The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be a rival to the Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster and the Jeep Meridian.

The Tayron R-Line is made on the five-seater Tiguan R-Line’s MQB EVO platform but comes with a longer wheelbase, measuring 2,798 mm. It will be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the Tiguan, making 204 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. It also comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels.

The three-row SUV is similar to the Tiguan R-Line but, of course, has different lighting elements. On the inside, you get a little different front-row seats with a ventilation function, a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof and 30-colour ambient lighting as well. There’s likely also a three-zone climate control system to come.

The safety suite is expected to come with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, along with Level 2 ADAS and an electronic parking brake. It is already out in the foreign market, where it has received good reviews from both critics and owners.
