Oscar nod for film on tragic Gaza girl Hind Rajab

The Voice of Hind Rajab, a gripping film inspired by the final moments of Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best International Feature Film category.

The story is heartbreaking. Hind Rajab Hamada, a young girl from Gaza, was fleeing her city with six family members. Their vehicle came under Israeli gunfire. Everyone except Hind was killed instantly. She survived for a short while, but tragedy struck again—she was shot dead.

Hind’s last phone calls to the Palestinian Red Crescent, pleading for help, were recorded. Her desperate voice shocked the world and drew international attention to the human cost of the conflict.

The film is directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania. It was produced with support from Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Fund. The project attracted high-profile talent. Joaquin Phoenix and Brad Pitt are among the executive producers. Oscar-winning directors Jonathan Glazer and Alfonso Cuarón also joined the team.

The movie premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2025. It won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, the festival’s second-highest honor. The recognition cemented its status as a powerful cinematic achievement.

After the Oscar nomination was announced, the Red Sea Film Foundation shared its pride. They called the nomination a testament to the film’s creative vision and the dedication of everyone involved.
