The Government of India has issued a notification for the first phase of Census 2027 in January 2026. This time the census will be the first complete digital census of the country. In this, about 30 lakh employees will collect data through mobile app and portal.

The Central Government on Thursday released a list of 33 questions to be asked in Census 2027. These are the questions which will be asked at every household at the time of census. Also, let us tell you that information about these questions will have to be given to the head of the household.

The census will take place in two phases:

First phase – House listing will be done. This phase will run between April 1, 2026, and September 30, 2026. In this, each state and union territory will list houses as per its prescribed 30-day schedule. In this, information will be collected by going door-to-door or through self-enumeration. A self-enumeration window of 15 days will also be available before the commencement of field operations.

Second phase – Population census

This phase will start from February 2027. In which census will be conducted on the basis of caste. For information, let us tell you that earlier caste based census was conducted in the year 1881-1931. In this, population, caste and other socio-economic data will be collected.

The government has released a list of 33 questions to be asked in the first phase. These questions include information related to home, family and facilities. Some key points are as follows:

4. Major materials used in the wall of census house

5. Major materials used in the roof of census house

8. Family Number

9. Total number of persons normally living in the family

10. Name of the head of the family

11. Gender of the head of the family

12. Whether the head of the family belongs to SC/ST/Others

13. House ownership status

14. Number of rooms available for the family to live in

15. Number of married couples living in the family

16. Main source of drinking water

17. Availability of drinking water source

18. What is the main source of light?

19. Toilet accessibility

20. Type of toilet

21. Drainage of dirty water

22. Availability of Bathroom Keys

23. Availability of kitchen and LPG/PNG connection

24. Fuel used for cooking

25. Radio/Transistor

27. Internet facility

For information, let us tell you that earlier census was conducted in the year 2011. According to 2011 census, the total population of India was 121.02 crores. This included 62.37 crore men and 58.65 crore women.
