Washington. Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams has retired after her unmatched career in NASA. Announcing his retirement on Wednesday, he said that his 27-year journey at NASA was wonderful. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) remembered the achievements of Sunita Williams on her retirement and praised her for her contribution. NASA has said that Sunita’s retirement is effective from December 27, 2025. After this, questions are arising in the minds of people that how much pension will Sunita Williams get after retirement?
According to a report, Sunita Williams will not get pension directly from NASA after retirement. Instead, she will be eligible for a pension under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) within the US government. Sunita Williams’ pension will be calculated on the basis of her 27 years of service and average salary of three years.
How much pension?
According to the information, Sunita Williams will get about 1 percent of her high-3 average salary for every year of service. This could be a huge amount considering his GS-15 pay grade and annual salary of around Rs 1.20-1.30 crore. Although no exact amount regarding pension has been disclosed publicly, but he can get a government pension of approximately $ 43,200 i.e. approximately Rs 36 lakh annually. Apart from the federal pension, Sunita Williams will also get benefits from the American Social Security Scheme. Under this, they will get separate monthly payment. Talking about other benefits, they will also get health insurance, life insurance and savings amount.
History has been created in space
Sunita Williams is known for her record-breaking achievements and leadership roles. He has played a major role in giving a new shape to modern space exploration. Williams participated in three missions to the International Space Station (ISS). During her career, Ms. Williams spent a total of 608 days in space and is the second NASA astronaut in the world to spend the most time in space.
Apart from this, Sunita Williams is in sixth place among American astronauts in terms of longest solo space flight. She has also conducted 9 spacewalks that totaled 62 hours and six minutes, the most by a woman and the fourth most in terms of total time in history. She also became the first person to run a marathon in space.
