Melbourne Renegades sign a two-year deal with explosive opener Josh Brown
Melbourne. Melbourne Renegades’ explosive opening batsman Josh Brown has secured his future with the club for the next two years. Brown will now be seen playing for the Renegades at least till the end of Big Bash League 17 (BBL 17).
Josh Brown, who joined Melbourne Renegades in BBL 14, performed brilliantly during BBL 15, especially proving to be the star of the team in both Melbourne derby matches. Earlier, he had made a strong start to his Big Bash career with Brisbane Heat in BBL 12 and moved to Melbourne at the end of 2024.
Following the signing, Josh Brown was quoted as saying by the club: “It’s been a great time with the Renegades. I feel at home here and I’m excited about what we can achieve next with this club. I like our style of play and am very excited to be here for the next few years.”
Brown scored two half-centuries in BBL 15 and maintained a strike rate of over 150 for the third consecutive season. He scored a total of 311 runs and was the highest run-scorer for the Renegades. During this period, his highest score was 84 not out in the first Melbourne derby against Melbourne Stars.
Rosengarten, general manager of the Melbourne Renegades, said,
“Josh gives us tremendous power at the beginning of the innings. When he is in form, there are very few players who can get the innings going as quickly as him.”
This new contract of Josh Brown has come at a time when BBL 15 is in its final stages and many clubs have announced extension of players’ contracts. Melbourne Stars have signed new deals with Sam Harper (two years), Hilton Cartwright (two years) and Peter Siddle (one year), while Sydney Thunder captain David Warner has re-signed with the club for BBL 16.
As per BBL rules, all clubs have until 5pm on January 27 (Tuesday) to fill their rosters of 10 players before the league’s contracting embargo is lifted. After this, the player movement window will open from 9 am on January 28, in which it will be possible to trade players and change clubs of free agents.
