Robot will protect passengers at railway station, ‘ASC Arjun’ deployed
New Delhi. In a first of its kind initiative in Indian Railways, an anthropomorphic robot ‘ASC Arjun’ has been introduced at Visakhapatnam Railway Station. Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECR) zone has taken this step to improve the safety, security and service delivery of passengers. The robots have been deployed under the Railway Protection Force (RPF), as part of its modernization and digital transformation drive. It aims to strengthen security operations and improve passenger assistance.
RPF Inspector General (IG) Alok Bohra informed about this initiative. “The Waltair division of East Coast Railway zone has deployed an anthropomorphic robot named ‘ASC Arjun’ at Visakhapatnam railway station to strengthen the safety, security and service of passengers,” he said. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lalit Bohra said the robot is equipped with advanced artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT) connectivity and real-time monitoring capabilities, allowing it to act as a smart assistant for both RPF personnel and passengers.
How will robots help in security?
The release said the ASC will support Arjun in security monitoring, crowd management, cleanliness monitoring and security awareness. Additionally, it is designed to reduce human resource burden and improve response time. Officials said the anthropomorphic robot has been completely designed and developed in Visakhapatnam through indigenous innovation. For this, the RPF team has worked for more than a year under the guidance of senior railway and security officials.
