Fierce firing in Georgia: 4 Indian citizens killed in family dispute, embassy expressed condolences

In this tragic incident, four people including an Indian citizen lost their lives due to alleged domestic violence firing. The police have arrested the main accused from the nearby forests and the children have been rescued safely. Police were called to a report of a fatal shooting in a block of Brook Ivy Court in Georgia around 2:30 a.m. When police officers reached the spot, they found four people seriously injured inside the house. All these injured died tragically from their injuries either on the spot or shortly afterwards.
Identification of victims and accused
Police have identified the accused of this gruesome murder as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar, who is originally a resident of Atlanta. Vijay’s wife 43-year-old Meemu Dogra as well as 33-year-old Gaurav Kumar were among those killed in this attack. The other deceased have been identified as Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38, both residents of Lawrenceville.

When indiscriminate firing started inside the house, three small children were also present there who were horrified after seeing this scene. To save their lives, these children bravely locked themselves inside a cupboard so that they could escape from the eyes of the shooter. One of these courageous children somehow called the police and informed them about this bloody incident in time.

Within minutes of receiving the information, the police team reached the spot and surrounded the entire house from all sides. Police feared the attacker might still be hiding inside the home, so a K-9 unit was immediately deployed to search. The police’s trained dog tracked the suspect, Vijay Kumar, to a dense forest nearby, where he was immediately detained.

In the initial investigation, the officials have termed this entire incident as a case of deep domestic feud and mutual enmity. It is being told that a heated argument had started between Dogra and Vijay Kumar over some issue at their house in Atlanta. The couple then went with their 12-year-old child to the Brook Ivy Court home where the fatal shooting took place.

The Embassy has expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and has assured them of all help at the legal and administrative level. He confirmed that an Indian citizen was also among the dead, which made the matter more serious.
Current status of children
It is a matter of relief that the three children present in the house were not physically injured during this terrible firing. After the rescue, the police took the children to a safe place and later handed them over to the care of a responsible member of the family. The police are now interrogating Vijay Kumar to find out the exact and final reasons behind this murder.
