Opening of Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’ lags behind ‘Gadar 2’
Success of Sunny Deol’s new film ‘Border 2’
Mumbai: Sunny Deol’s recent war drama ‘Border 2’ has performed brilliantly at the box office, but it has failed to break the opening day record of ‘Gadar 2’. The film, released on 23 January 2026, has received positive responses from audiences and critics. Directed by Anurag Singh, this war based film stars Sunny Deol along with actors like Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
Opening of ‘Border 2’ compared to ‘Gadar 2’
The film did a business of around Rs 30-32 crore in India on the first day, which is considered a strong start. According to some reports, the net collection was around 30 crores, while the gross collection reached 35 crores. This is the second biggest opening of Sunny Deol’s career, but slightly less than the record of ‘Gadar 2’. Keep in mind that ‘Gadar 2’, released in 2023, had a net collection of Rs 40.1 crore on the first day.
Story of Opening Day Record
‘Gadar 2’ directed by Anil Sharma achieved huge success due to the pairing of Patriotic Josh and Sunny Deol. The film made a worldwide gross collection of Rs 686 crore and became one of the most successful films of Bollywood. ‘Border 2’ is the sequel to the 1997 classic film ‘Border’, which is based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war. This time the story has been made even grander, with a dash of action, emotions and patriotism.
Sunny Deol’s strong performance
The film clashed with Timothée Chalamet’s ‘Marty Supreme’ on the day of its release, but ‘Border 2’ took a strong start. The audience says that Sunny Deol’s performance is once again brilliant. The entry of Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh has also given a new color to the film. Critics have praised it as a Patriotic War drama and word of mouth is also positive.
