Another Hindu businessman murdered in Mymensingh, attacks on minorities continue

Desk : Another heart-wrenching incident came to light on Tuesday in Trishal area of Mymensingh district in the northern part of Bangladesh, when a Hindu businessman was murdered by unknown people. This incident has once again given rise to concern about the attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh.

According to the police, the killed person has been identified as 60-year-old Sushen Chandra Sarkar. This incident happened when he did not return to his home on Monday night. When his son received no response after repeated calls, he himself went to his father’s shop, where he was injured by the miscreants. His head was attacked with a sharp weapon. After taking him to the hospital, doctors declared him dead.

Trishal Circle Police ASP Hasan Israfil told ANI, “We are trying to find out the reason behind the murder, but at the moment the matter is unclear. We are investigating the reason behind this murder.”

This incident is particularly significant because earlier on December 18, 2025, another Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, was also killed by a mob in the same district. Dipu was beaten to death for alleged blasphemy and his body was then hanged and set on fire.

At the same time, police officials said that although a charge of blasphemy was made against Deepu, during the investigation no concrete evidence was found to prove that he had posted something objectionable on Facebook.

These incidents are part of a growing series of attacks against minority communities in Bangladesh. Last month, the interim government of Bangladesh released a report on attacks on minority communities and the law and order situation in 2025. According to police records, there have been 645 incidents involving minorities in Bangladesh that have been officially investigated and recorded.
