Om Birla: Speaker Om Birla’s big decision on opposition’s no-confidence motion, will not go to Lok Sabha until discussion

New Delhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has decided not to attend the proceedings of the House until the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition is discussed and decided. According to sources, the issue may be considered on March 9, which will be the first day of the second phase of the budget session. On the same day, a decision can be taken to start discussion on the no-confidence motion brought against the Speaker in the House.

It is noteworthy that the opposition parties are continuously alleging that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is not conducting the proceedings of the House in an impartial manner and is showing inclination in favor of the ruling party. However, considering the numerical strength in the Lok Sabha, this no-confidence motion is being considered mostly symbolic politically, as the chances of its passing are very less.

On Tuesday, opposition parties had submitted a notice of no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla under Article 94 (C) of the Constitution. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that this notice was formally submitted at 1:14 pm under Rule 94C of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Lok Sabha.

According to Congress, this proposal has signatures of a total of 118 MPs. Along with Congress, many opposition parties including Samajwadi Party and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have supported it. However, Trinamool Congress has not yet signed this proposal.

In the notice of no-confidence motion, the opposition MPs have alleged that the Lok Sabha Speaker repeatedly did not give them the opportunity to raise important issues related to public interest in the House. The opposition says that for this reason they had to take the step of bringing a no-confidence motion against the Speaker. Now all eyes are fixed on March 9, when the further process on this proposal can be decided on the first day of the second phase of the budget session.
