Outcry over General MM Naravane’s book: Delhi Police takes action after Rahul Gandhi’s claims, notice issued to Penguin Random House India

Delhi Police has issued a notice to publisher Penguin Random House India in the alleged leak of former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s upcoming book ‘Four Stars of Destiny’. According to police sources, reports had surfaced on different social media platforms and news forums that a pre-print copy of the book was being circulated publicly. Taking cognizance of these reports, the police started preliminary investigation. In this context, clarification has been sought from the publisher as to how the pre-print copy reached out and to whom it was made available in advance. Police are also trying to find out how much truth is there in the facts related to the alleged leak and whether there is any kind of negligence or criminal element involved in it.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police has issued a notice to Penguin Random House India (PRHI) in the alleged leak of former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s unpublished book ‘Four Stars of Destiny’. According to the news published in India Today, the notice has sought answers to several questions related to the unpublished book and the publisher has been asked to cooperate in the investigation. In this matter, Delhi Police has also registered an FIR and started investigation. On this, Penguin India has said in its clarification that Naravane’s book has neither been printed, nor sold, nor distributed to anyone. He also warned that sharing the book in print or PDF form is a copyright violation and should be stopped immediately. General MM Naravane himself has also justified this claim of Penguin India and confirmed that the book has not been published yet.

How did so much discussion start about the book?

The controversy started last week when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while speaking in the Lok Sabha during the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address, mentioned parts of former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s book ‘Four Stars of Destiny’. He described it as ‘pre-print’ form. After this speech of Rahul Gandhi, members of the ruling party raised strong objections, saying that it is not appropriate to publicly mention the contents of an unpublished book. Due to this, the proceedings of Parliament were adjourned several times.

Rahul mentioned the post of year 2023

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also cited an old tweet related to the book ‘Four Stars of Destiny’ by former Army Chief General MM Naravane. According to Rahul Gandhi, Naravane had written on Twitter (now X) on December 15, 2023: “Hello friends, my book is now available. Just follow the link. Happy reading, Jai Hind.”

‘Is the publisher lying or is Naravane’

During the discussion in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that in the ‘Four Stars of Destiny’ leak controversy, either the publisher or General MM Naravane is lying. Rahul Gandhi said, “I do not think that former Army Chief General Naravane will lie. Some uncomfortable things have been written in the book for the government and the Prime Minister. I trust Naravane ji rather than Penguin.” His statement indicates that instead of relying on the alleged leaks of the book and the claims of the publisher, he relies on the words and information of the author Naravane himself.
