US lawmakers warn against China’s pressure on Taiwan, approve PROTECT Taiwan Act…

The United States House of Representatives has approved a new law to give a strict warning to China on the issue of Taiwan. The House passed the “PROTECT Taiwan Act” with an overwhelming majority, making it clear that both major parties are united against China regarding Taiwan. This act has been brought with the aim of preventing China from putting pressure on Taiwan.

Let us tell you, according to a report, this bill was introduced by Frank Lucas and it was supported by 395 members, while only 2 opposed it. This resolution demands the US government to take steps to exclude China from major international financial institutions if Beijing’s behavior poses a threat to Taiwan’s security, economy or way of life. These include institutions like G20, Bank for International Settlements and Financial Stability Board.

At the same time, Lucas said that its purpose is to make it clear that if China attacks Taiwan, it will have to suffer massive economic and diplomatic consequences. He cited the example of punitive measures taken by Russia after its attack on Ukraine and said that whenever the rules are violated, the global community should give a strong response. Citing China’s attitude in the South China Sea, he said that Washington should now be stricter than before.

Let us tell you, if China tries to attack Taiwan, then under this proposal, steps like ban and suspending its stake in multilateral institutions are likely to be taken.

Republican MP French Hill, pointing to the rules of the Taiwan Relations Act, said that this act indicates that China will have to pay a heavy diplomatic and financial price for any attempted attack. At the same time, Democrat MP Greg Stanton also reiterated this point and said that governments that threaten their neighbors have no right to benefit from the international system.

At the same time, now this proposal has to be passed in the Senate and the approval of the US President is required, so that it can become law. If it is passed, it could prove to be a major pressure move on China, especially in the context of its increasing pressure on Taiwan.
