Summons issued to Penguin representatives on Naravane’s book controversy

New Delhi. The Special Cell of Delhi Police has issued a notice to the publisher ‘Penguin Random House India’ and directed its representatives to appear for questioning.

Former Army Chief General M.M. The action has been taken in connection with the investigation into the alleged making public of Naravane’s memoir, ‘Four Stars of Destiny’, before its official publication. A case had already been registered regarding this book being made public before its printing. This book includes details of the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. According to police sources, now the scope of investigation has been expanded by adding sections of criminal conspiracy to the existing First Information Report (FIR).

This notice has been given to the publisher following the recent controversy over the condition of the book. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had referred to a social media message from General Naravane dated 2023, which said the book was ‘now available.’ In response, ‘Penguin Random House India’ issued a clarification on standard publishing procedures.

The publisher said that announcing a book or listing it for pre-order or pre-order is not the same as publishing it. He clarified that a book is considered published only when it is physically available for purchase at retail stores.

The company had earlier claimed that no copy of this memoir, whether printed or digital, has ever been published, distributed or sold. The Special Branch is reportedly investigating the matter of information leakage and officials are examining digital and other evidence.
